Battalion Field Hospital

A World War II era living museum would not be complete without an authentic battalion field hospital and surgical tent. Hundreds of re-enactors will perform mock WWII battles, and the simulated casualties transported by genuine military ambulances to an actual living-museum surgical tent--complete with supplies and equipment common to the period.

With this exhibit, we tell the stories of both the men and women who served in these early field hospitals as well as those who were treated. We also honor the memory of the people back home that rolled bandages, prepared care packages, and sacrificed to conserve resources needed by our soldiers at war.

This attraction will combine the efforts of three unique medical professionals who have joined their professional interests with their hobbies and passion of history. Each dedicated to honoring and preserving the history of WWII at Victory Days.

Peter Kirsch, M.D. (Retired Surgeon from Louisville, KY) has spent decades and literally thousands of dollars collecting this unique, priceless, and fascinating field hospital display. Healthcare enthusiasts and spectators alike will be immersed in the 1940’s medical history as they interact with VIP guests who actually served during WWII as doctors, nurses, and field medics.

Dr. Neal Haskell, Ph.D. (Forensic Scientist from Rensselaer, IN) is a renowned teacher at Saint Joseph's College. Due to the current interest in crime fighting by the general public (CSI and others), Dr. Haskell has been featured on over 15 television programs. Dr. Haskell will bring to Victory Days well qualified re-enactors with medical experience. He also owns a WC64 ambulance. Unique because they used to stack them for transport, this vehicle is one of only six (6) left in the world today.

Otto Dueno, M.D. (Psychiatrist from Dayton, Ohio) is a WWII enthusiast who also brings a contingent of current medical personnel, volunteering their time as re-enactors serving in the battalion field hospital providing narration and answering questions to spectators in this one of its kind living history project.
